OUR STORY
Tammy, Tanner, and Rand Faaborg
Welcome to 1100 Farm, where innovation meets tradition on a picturesque hill just 45-minutes north of Des Moines, Iowa. Nestled amidst fields of corn and soybeans our farm tells a story of transformation and dedication to sustainable agriculture.
Founded by Tammy and Rand Faaborg, the farm began as a hog farming venture, gradually expanding over the years. After recognizing the challenges within the industry, the Faaborg family, after a year of collaboration with The Transfarmation Project, made the courageous decision to shift their focus entirely — to mushrooms.
Thus, began the journey to transform the hog facility into an innovative, specialty-mushroom operation, setting the stage for a farm that goes beyond conventional practices. The name "1100 Farm" pays homage to the number of hogs each barn used to house.
Tanner Faaborg | Founder
The driving force behind this transformation is Tanner Faaborg, the son who, after leaving the farm to explore the world and pursue higher education, returned with a vision for change. Growing up amidst the chores of the hog barns, Tanner developed a passion for improving the family land and implementing sustainable practices. From planting trees to harnessing solar power through a dedicated solar array, his commitment to environmental sustainability is deeply rooted.
At 1100 Farm, we are not just cultivating mushrooms — we are cultivating change. Our mission goes beyond providing fresh produce and value-added products across the state; we aim to be a beacon of low-carbon farming practices. Tanner's vision extends to making an immediate impact on mitigating climate change, setting a precedent for others to follow. We envision our farm not only as a provider of quality goods but also as a model for sustainable agriculture, inspiring fellow farmers to embrace environmentally conscious practices.
Join us on this transformative journey as we redefine the possibilities of farming. At 1100 Farm, we believe in the power of change, the resilience of innovation, and the importance of leaving a positive impact on our environment.
